Oxford in Instagram

Well I’m home now, I’ve been back in Australia for a little over a week and I’ve just been relaxing, enjoying the sunshine and catching up mostly getting over the Jet Lag (so much worse coming home). Now that I’m all over it and relaxed I’ve started going over my photos. All the photos today are from my iPhone and my Instagram stream.

Stirling Castle and Glasgow

The last day on the tour we spent first at Stirling Castle and then later at Glasgow.

Stirling is famous mostly for William Wallace and the huge battle he won there, the Battle of Stirling Bridge, which doesn’t exist any more. I spent most of the time we had in Stirling at the Castle which was amazing, I highly recommend a visit. The whole experience is completely different to Edinburgh, Stirling Castle is set up so that you can see what it would have looked like when Mary Queen of Scots lived there which is very cool.

I really Enjoyed Stirling Castle, it was phenomenal. Stirling is also the place where according to legend Mary Queen of Scots had her Husband Lord Darnley blown up. I had a hot chocolate it the building where it apparently happened.

Next and last stop on the tour was Glasgow. We where there for the evening and we went to ‘Jamie’s Italian’ for dinner. YAY Jamie Oliver. I love Jamie Oliver I have 6 or 7 of his cookbooks and I have been watching his television shows since I was a teenager so I was very excited.The Meal was amazing so so so good. I would eat at any of hie restaurants again in a heart beat.

That was my meal probably the best meal ever and our waiter whose name I can’t remember for the life of me was wonderful as well. The whole experience was just amazing.

Well that is the end of all the photos from my tour, it was wonderful I am so happy that I booked it and traveled it has been one of the best experiences of my life.

Next week i’ll be putting up mu photos from Oxford which has so far been equally as wonderful.

Edinburgh

We had a whole free day in Edinburgh which was phenomenal, Edinburgh is a great city to wander around and explore in.

I spent most of the morning exploring Edinburgh Castle and the bulk of the afternoon shopping.

SO there are lots of pictures from the morning and not that many from the afternoon as my hand were full of lovely shopping bags.

The Castle is absolutely amazing, it has the most phenomenal views of the city, there is also a museum all about Scotland during the wars which was very interesting, just being in the Castle it’s self was fantastic.

That was Edinburgh, I highly recommend the Castle is is an amazing visit. The rest of my day was spent shopping so I didn’t really take that many pictures but I do have one I want to share.

Hadrian’s Wall & Hello Scotland!

Hadrian’s wall was the thing I think I was most looking forward to, actually walking around a Roman Fort I was beyond excited.

When you drive up to the sight it looks as though you have come to see a carpark, the whole ruin of the wall is behind a tree line and up a hill. A proper hill to, it may only be 500 metre’s to the site but it up hill the whole way.

Hadrian’s wall was one of my favourite things I have done on my trip so far it was fantastic! I could have spent hours there, but we had to move on because it was time to enter Scotland, YAY!

YAY SCOTLAND !

I was particularly excited about Scotland because my Great Grandmother emigrated to Australia from there when she was only 19 by herself.

The whole way through this trip whenever I have thought that I was to homesick and I just didn’t want to do anything, my Mum (who I can contact like 5 ways in a heartbeat) has reminded me about my Great Grandmother 19 getting on a Boat all alone, traveling for months to get to the end of the world where she didn’t know a soul. It has really helped me have some perspective, yes it’s perfectly normal to be homesick but that doesn’t mean I have to give in to it.

Tomorrow is all about Edinburgh.

Liverpool & York

Liverpool home of the Beatles was the first city of the day. We did a bus tour of the city which was a great way to see lots of sights quickly. We also got to stop at a couple of the sights for photos needless to say they were Beatles related.

After some time wandering about Liverpool and shopping (boy does Liverpool have great shops) We hopped back on the Bus and drove up to York.

York is beautiful, we were really only in the main center of the city inside the walls and it is stunning. I spent a lot of time wandering around an area called The Shambles which used to be a street of butchers. The cobblestones on the street are beautiful if scary to walk on. I had sneakers on and I almost killed myself a hundred time by not picking my feet up enough.

The city itself feels as though you have stepped back in time to the medieval era all the cobblestone streets and the houses built all close together, the tiny little lane ways next to the houses. It was simply stunning.

Clifford’s Tower

Clifford’s tower is near the center of the town built up on the big hill, with nothing directly around it. The tower is a Norman tower from after William the Conquerors time and to see it right there in the middle of town is just incredible.

The last thing we did in York which I highly recommend doing, was a ghost tour, we went with a local Guide named Clive and he was fantastic, you wander around York in the dark down all the little lane ways and alleys and he tells true ghost stories it was wonderful. More so when you learn that York is the most Haunted city in the United Kingdom.

I loved York I could go back in a heartbeat it was fantastic.

Tomorrow I’ll tell you about the cruise on Lake Windermere and my afternoon in Keswick.

Stonehenge & Bath

The first day on the tour was Stonehenge and Bath.

Stonehenge is straight up amazing. it’s phenomenal to see in person, but I did feel like it should have been bigger somehow. It may just be that you have to stay a set distance away from the stones while you are viewing them.

The whole henge is beautiful it is absolutely stunning.

We stopped in the early morning so the whole sight was bathed in sunlight, it was just so beautiful.

Bath was beautiful, the whole city is just stunning, all of the streetlamps have hanging baskets of flowers and there was an actual town square where people were preforming, it was an amazing experience.

The Roman Baths were the reason the tour had stopped there and they were a whole other level of amazing.

Around the edge of the walkway looking down at the main bath are statues of important Romans mostly Emperors so I had to take a picture of my absolute favorite Roman, Julius Caesar.

I spent almost 2 hours wandering around the whole Roman Bath complex it was incredible to actually be able to walk down next to the main Bath itself, I had a total History Geek moment, I walked on 2000 year old stones, YAY! I was so excited.

Which this photo doesn’t show at all, whenever I take my own photo I suddenly go all serious. Inside I was geeking out like nothing. The thing that was the best about Bath was something you couldn’t even really see. It was the feeling that you were walking through History you could really feel it all around you.

England YAY!

I’m In England YAY!

First off my apologies for not posting sooner but my internet has been really patchy while I have been touring around and I haven’t been able to post properly. I have settled down in the Oxford area for a little while so now I can post.

I’m going to start at the beginning, the Plane.

I have never been on a plane before I got on the plane to come to the UK. The first 15-20 mins of taking of and flying were fantastic the next 21 hours were pretty boring and uncomfortable. We had a stop over in Singapore which was nice a chance to stretch and wander about, also it may have the nicest staff ever got presents just for landing and my new eye mask really helped on the next leg of the flight. I tried to sleep for most of it. The coolest part was looking out over Europe and seeing all the lights of the city trying to figure out which one we were passing over with the map.

Landing in Heathrow was a bit daunting but surprisingly easy and simple you walk forever when you get of the plane. Then it was a quick trip though security and down to the train station to catch the Heathrow Express into London.

Its a weird photo I took it on the iPhone and the light was all wrong.

I got of the train at Paddington Station and then caught a taxi to my Hotel for that night. The Imperial Hotel in Russell Square. Russell Square is beautiful so pretty, I was marveling at how pretty it was and didn’t take any photo until I saw

I was very excited to see the typical London telephone booth, very excited.

I had decided early on that I wanted to spend that first day before I started my tour in the British Museum because I am a Museum Geek at heart I adore them and well the British Museum need I say more.

I spent most of the day wandering around the museum marveling in the history, there are sections where you literally walk around the corner and see a whole ancient building or temple it is so amazing. Here are a couple more picture form my day there.

The War Memorial from an iPhone

So my last post was all about me photographing the War Memorial, all the shots were on my Nikon and I was spending a lot of time composting and trying to ‘see’ the picture I wanted before I took it.

Today is about Canberra there’s a couple of shots at the War Memorial but only a couple most of today’s photos are quick snaps as we were running around having fun. All from my iPhone’s point of view which is tons of fun.
